A little upgrade: From Bean to Baby

Up until now, I've nicknamed my baby "edamame".  I mean, come on, it looks like a little bean with tiny arms and legs sprouting out of it.  But since I happen to be old as F*, I was fortunate enough to do a genetic screening they give women older than 35 to check for any chromosomal abnormalities. This was a simple little blood test they did last week that just took blood from my arm as usual, and then the sample was sent off to a separate genetics lab for processing.  99% accurate and no trauma to the baby - just using whatever cells the baby sent out into my blood stream as opposed to having to stick a needle into my tummy to pull amniotic samples.  Pretty awesome!

Well, today at our 12 week doctor's appointment, the results were in.  No down syndrome or any problems whatsoever, and signs of a lovely "Y" chromosome - meaning IT'S A BOY!  Stephen and I just high-fived each other as soon as we heard.  We would've been just as happy with a girl, but at the same time, Stephen is the last Kamada of his generation and I can't help but feel so happy to give him an heir.

Practicing his rock moves already - those are his arm & leg flexing out as he makes his move- upside down no less!
So I think that little chromosome discovery warrants the use of the little guy's name now.  We had already picked out names for boys and girls (told y'all we don't waste any time!).  So let me introduce you to Darius Joseph Pono Kamada.  And what's in a name?  Well, Darius The Great was the ruler of the Persian Empire at its greatest.  The name itself means "he who holds firm the goodness," which  corresponds to the meaning of the Hawaiian name I chose, Pono (righteous).  While Cyrus the Great built the Persian Empire and is known as the "first king", Darius is known by many Persians as "king of kings".  The dude accomplished many great things during his reign, so not surprising that Darius is a very common Persian name.  Now Joseph is a common name in many places too, but this was chosen by Stephen to pay respect to one of his musical mentors who passed away when he was younger.

This noble name doesn't mean we're going to treat our son like a king and spoil him till he becomes some narcissist.  We are just putting high hopes into his life for the great accomplishment, unification, diversification, and compassion Darius the Great represents.  Plus, it only makes sense that Stephen's father, Cyrus, has Darius among his descendants.  Cheeseball much?  (^o^)  Stephen and I just hope we can properly shape and influence his life in a way where we don't put too much pressure for him to be any certain way but he will make the right decisions on his own, independent and strong.  We will introduce him to many things culturally and musically, but we'll let him decide what he enjoys and wants to pursue.  He will have love and support whoever he is, or whoever he chooses to be.  Unless he turns out like someone like the cheeto with hair that's running for president right now.... Just sayin!

Things just keep getting more and more real!  I'll probably do another post soon about some of my funny first trimester woes, so stay tuned!
